Racing Continues to Be ‘All in the Family’ for Wayne Taylor’s Organization in 2013
Brothers Ricky and Jordan Taylor competed against each other in GRAND-AM Daytona Prototypes at Watkins Glen International in August. What was a one-off situation will become an every-race occurrence in 2013 beginning with the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Ricky Taylor, who spent three seasons with his father’s No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing organization driving a Corvette DP, moves to the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP camp.
His replacement will be his younger sibling Jordan, an accomplished GT racer. He’ll be paired with Max Angelelli – the constant in Wayne Taylor’s program since its inception.
“I’m absolutely thrilled that this opportunity has opened up for my younger son Jordan after Ricky enjoyed such a successful three-year run alongside Max,” said team owner and three-time sports car racing champion Wayne Taylor. “Jordan has proven his ability as a championship-caliber driver for the past five seasons. And, as everybody knows, contending for championships is absolutely what this organization has been all about since we started doing this back in 2004.”
Wayne Taylor and Angelelli teamed to win the 2005 DP championship. Angelelli and Ricky Taylor finished sixth in 2012 DP standings posting victories at Homestead, New Jersey and in the season finale at Lime Rock Park.
Jordan Taylor, 21, finished runner up in 2011 GRAND-AM Rolex GT points winning at Virginia International Raceway. This year’s abbreviated campaign in the seat of the No. 88 Autohaus Motorsports Camaro GT.R included a victory at Detroit’s Belle Isle street circuit.
“I’m excited for sure,” said Jordan Taylor. “I’ve followed the team, obviously, my whole career with my dad and Max being like a brother or a second dad and mentor to me, too. It’ll be cool to drive with Max and have my dad right there.
“It’s a great team that has won a lot of races and a championship and it has been in the championship hunt pretty much every year.”
Jordan Taylor tested a DP car during last summer’s run up to the inaugural Brickyard Grand Prix. He drove Action Express Racing’s No. 5 Corvette DP during the Glen’s Continental Tire 200 teamed with Terry Borcheller and David Donohue. The team finished sixth – two spots behind his father’s No. 10.
“It might take just a little time to get accustomed to the Corvette Dallara package (but) I have a pretty good handle on what the current DP feels like,” he said. “It’s going to be a fresh start to a new year and I’m really glad to have this opportunity to plan and make the most of it.”
The 12-race GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series campaign kicks off Jan. 26-27 with the 51st running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
