DTM driver Glock to draw DFB Cup matches
Timo Glock will act as ‘lady luck’: next Sunday, the DTM driver will take on a prestigious duty, during which he will be closely watched by millions of football fans. During the ‘ARD Sportschau’ TV programme (from 18.00 h), BMW works driver Glock will draw the two semi-final matches for the DFB Cup. On behalf of the German football federation DFB, Andreas Köpke , keepers’ trainer of the German national team, will oversee the draw.
After 91 races, Glock turned his back on Formula 1 and will be making his debut in the most popular international touring car series this season. The 30-year old will compete in his maiden race during the season opener at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg on May 5th, only a few kilometres away from the Odenwald region where he was born. Prior to that, he will be behind the wheel during the official ITR test sessions at Barcelona (March 26th till 29th) and Hockenheim (April 9th till 12th).
The four participants in the semi-finals are known now. On Tuesday evening, SC Freiburg beat FSV Mainz 3-2 in the extra time of the Bundesliga match to move up into the round of the final four for the first time in its history. VfL Wolfsburg, who played in the 1995 Cup final, beat third-league club Kickers Offenbach 2-1.
On Wednesday evening, record cup winners Bayern München won their match against defending Cup winners Borussia Dortmund 1-0, as a revenge for the defeat in last year’s final. VfB Stuttgart beat the only remaining club from Germany’s second league, VfL Bochum, 2-0.
