The German GU-Racing team introduce their second driver for the ATS Formula 3 Cup. Sebastian Balthasar is set to contest his first year in the ATS Formula 3 Cup for the GU-Racing team. The 16-year old driver from Cologne participated in the ADAC Formel Masters series in the 2012 season. Balthasar will compete in the ATS Formula 3 Cup Trophy rating in a Dallara F308 with Mercedes engine. While the young talent from Cologne has never driven a Formula 3 car before, Team Principal Günther Unterreitmeier and the entire team agree that he will be able to deliver a consistently good performance in the Trophy rating.

The drivers and the other members of the GU-Racing team still have a few tests scheduled after the long winter break. The team principal and his team from Velden, Bavaria understand that only practice makes perfect! The first laps are set to be completed at the beginning of April, in order to optimise the cars and to help the drivers in their transition to Formula 3 sports. “It is a big step in my career as a race driver. I have set myself the goal to give my best and to learn as much as possible,” says Sebastian Balthasar. “Motorsports is fascinating. Anybody who has ever experienced it will know what I am talking about: the environment, the spectators, the atmosphere and above all the cars, which the driver can take to the very limit.”

Talented rookies in the team
Günter Unterreitmeier signed two talents to the team, Sebastian Balthasar and Freddy Killensberger. The 17-year old from Wortelstetten near Augsburg will contest his second season for the GU-Racing team, and his first season in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. “I am sure that we have two young drivers who are both able and willing to learn,” says Unterreitmeier. “The entire team is highly motivated and excited about returning to the race tracks.” GU-Racing plans to contest the season with a total of three drivers. Interested drivers still have a chance to sign up.

The general qualification for motorsports
The German Formula 3 has been the most consistent national series since 1975. In most cases, it provides a professional environment for former kart drivers with talent for Formula racing. Those who really want to achieve success, earn their spurs in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. Young drivers get a chance to prepare for the next steps of their racing career in a professional environment. They expand their skills as Formula drivers working closely with the racing cars, the engineers and the media. The ATS Formula 3 Cup is the general qualification for motorsports. Only future professionals will succeed.

The ATS Formula 3 Cup has a good standing in the international motorsports scene. Every year, an average of nearly 20,000 spectators watch the races at the highest sportive level. Teams from all parts of Europe compete with drivers from all over the world for top positions in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. A strong media interest, the presence at big events and the collaboration with the ADAC guide the ATS Formula 3 Cup into a positive future.
