Peter Mücke, boss of Berlin’s Team kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport enjoyed an adrenaline filled weekend. The owner of the German Capitol’s racing team which is involved in the DTM, the FIA Formula 3 European Championship and the ADAC Formula Masters was at the start in his legendary Ford Capri RS 3100 for the Revival of the German Racing Sports Championships 1972 to 1981 as part of the Oldtimer Grandprix at the Nürburgring from 9th to 11th August.

As it turned out, the 66 year old is unlikely to forget his first two races of the year. For one, the racing driver with motorsports in his veins brought home a class victory on Sunday (cars built from 1972 to 1976 with more than 2,000 cc), making a statement by leaving behind numerous cars by Porsche, BMW and Alfa Romeo after a start at the rear of the field. The other memorable event happened the day before when he came across an oil spillage in the Hatzenbach bend while in the lead and spectacularly took off at 250km/h. “That was quite intense as I only came to a standstill with just about one and a half metres  distance to the barrier”, reported Peter Mücke. His Ford Capri (3400cc, built 1974, around 450 horsepower) just like its driver, thankfully only suffered little damage at the tailgate. “I returned onto the track after all during the safety car phase that followed and still ended up fifth in my class.”

His son Stefan Mücke (Aston-Martin driver 2011 GT1 vice world champion, Endurance WC 2012 team vice world champion, last and this year on podium as third at GTE Pro class at 24 hours of LeMans), was relieved that his father’s take off did not result in injury. As always, the 31 year old prepared and maintained the Capri for Mücke Senior’s races. “The car was yet again top class” says Peter Mücke. “I was even faster than last year at the same location. It’s a great feeling to see that I can still improve despite the fact that opportunities for me to drive are rare now. As always, it was great fun to sit behind the steering wheel despite the involuntary incident.” Celebrating Peter Mücke’s performance in the Ford Capri with Mücke Motorsport was a huge fan club.

The Berlin man will be at the Nürburgring again in just a few days time over the coming weekend (16th to 18th August). He will however trade the cockpit for the command post this week as the team manager will need to oversee the next event’s DTM and Formula 3 European Championship races.
