Max Papis to compete at Monza for the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series
Max Papis on track at Monza for the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series at the wheel of a Max Papis Racing car! On September 28th and 29th the NASCAR Whelen Euro series will make its debut in Italy at the legendary Autodromo di Monza for the first round of its “playoffs” and Max Papis will compete his home race at the wheel of Max Papis Racing car. The Italian driver’s goal is to honor the first Italian NASCAR race and break ground for a long-term project that could become a bridge between Europe and the US.
After his exhibition at the Monza Rally Show in 2011 with a NASCAR Sprint Cup car, for which he received a roaring standing ovation from the crowd on the stands along the main straight, Papis will return to where his racing career began on a NASCAR Whelen Euro Series/Racing Electronics sponsored Chevrolet Camaro featuring the # 19 on the doors and a livery inspired with the Italian flag.
“It’s amazing to be back in Monza for a race and it’s fantastic to see how the 2011 event, strongly wanted by NASCAR and I to bring some of my American world to my country, led to a NASCAR Whelen Euro Series weekend at my home track,” said the Italian, who is the European driver with the most presences in NASCAR. “It’s an historic event and I’m proud to be on the grid of the first ever NASCAR race in Italy with my own team”.
Max’s idea is to field a car for the entire 2014 NWES season in order to support young talented European drives and let them gain experience on a stock car.
“It would be wonderful to materialize this idea with my team and to represent a ‘trait d’union’ between Europe and America,” he said. “There are many young and talented drivers that would like to race in NASCAR, but right now can’t afford to pack and go to the United States. Having a team with my name and my staff in Europe could help them and also offer them opportunities in the U.S.”.
After obtaining a 3rd place finish in his debut in the Series at Tours Speedway in early July, Max is targeting a win in “his” Monza and will rely on the deep knowledge of John Monsam as crew chief. Monsam has a vast experience in NASCAR and in his career he summed up seven Camping World Truck Series wins and two Nationwide Series wins.
“We won’t have much time to work on the car this time, but there are some things we can work to make the car as aerodynamic as possible” said Max. “We will do a rehearsal for what could be our new adventure, something special both NASCAR and I”.
The event with Max Papis and the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series is on September 28th and 29th at the Autodromo di Monza, where Max will race in the two Elite Division races. Entrance will be free and paddock will be open for everybody to let the fans live the great atmosphere of a NASCAR race at its best! For detailed event schedule, go to:
