F.Renault 3.5 – I.S.R. complete season’s first test as rain disrupts Day 3 in Alcaniz
Changeable weather was the leitmotif of today’s third and last day of F.Renault 3.5 testing in Alcaniz. Rain fell on the Spanish venue right at mid-day, and in doing so it disrupted both sessions, forcing the Czech team to alter their programme for the day. In the morning ISR had planned to focus on setup work, while at least a long run was scheduled for the afternoon. Unluckily, the first raindrops did hit the track around 11 AM, meaning that at least 90 minutes of valuable track time were wasted, and that Jazeman Jaafar closed the first half of the day without even going for a fast laptime on fresh tyres.
In the afternoon the Malayasian driver took advantage of the wet track to get some mileage on rain tyres and to work with the team on a few different setup options, despite a very disrupted session with no less than seven red flags.
Jazeman Jaafar: S1 – P11; S2 – P19
“Today was quite an odd one, as it was practically split in two by the rain. Anyway it was a useful day for us, as in the morning we managed to make some steps forward with our setup work, aiming at understanding and exploiting the tyre’s operating window. I’m really happy with what we achieved so far, and I have to say that the car was quick in the wet too, something that could prove useful throughout the season. I really look forward to being back in the car in Jerez”.
