ISR TOP THE SHEETS IN DAY 1 OF JEREZ WSR TESTING
ISR kicked off the Jerez F.Renault 3.5 test in style, topping the sheets of Day 1 with Jazeman Jaafar and securing a top ten spot with Nigel Melker. Jaafar clocked the quickest laptime of the day’s two sessions in the morning, when the Malaysian talent opted for a run on new tyres to check the results of a very solid set-up development routine. The extra grip granted by fresh rubber paid dividends as the Petronas-sponsored car completed the 4.5 kms lap in just 1’26″840, a laptime that remained unbeaten for the day. In the afternoon Jazeman and the team tried different race-oriented solutions on old tyres, and closed the session in P12. On the other side of the garage, Nigel Melker returned to the team after a fruitful ECU-test in Paul Ricard last february. The Dutchman’s experience allowed him to blend flawlessly with the team’s technical staff, immediately finding a setup that suited his driving style. This was proved by the sixth quickest laptime he posted in the morning session, followed by a solid P10 performance in the afternoon.
Jazeman Jaafar:
S1 – P1; S2 – P12
”We did a really good job, especially in the morning. The car felt quick from scratch, and with just a few tweaks we found the sweet spot. I’m happy because we have a very good base setup that allows me to be quick straight out of the box at any track, something that gives me a lot of confidence for the season. In the afternoon we tried some different solutions and not everything worked as planned, but that’s exactly the point of testing, so I’m okay with that”.
Nigel Melker:
S1 – P6; S2 – P10
”This morning I was really happy, especially as the laptime didn’t reflect my full potential. I got some traffic and without that I could have finished as high as P1 or close, so I was pretty satisfied with that. I’m working with the team to tailor the car to my style and that inevitably takes time, but judging from today I’d say that we are heading in the right direction”.
