F.Renault 3.5 – Pons Racing and Van Buuren work on race pace in Jerez Day 2
Pons Racing and Meindert Van Buuren enjoyed a trouble-free second day of running in Jerez de la Frontera: on the track that is providing the stage for the last F.Renault 3.5 pre-season test, the talented Dutchman was 17th in Tuesday’s overall classification after that in both sessions he focused on race pace and on practicing both starts and pit-stops. Meindert’s performance was once again spotless, with 56 laps completed without a single mistake, an achievement that impressed the team and bodes well for the season to come. Pons Racing lined-up just one car today as Robert Visoiu was forced to withdraw from the test due to a neck injury. That was the only setback on an otherwise flawless day for the team managed by Emilio De Villota.
Emilio De Villota (Team Manager): “We had a very positive day with Meindert, who keeps impressing us with his commitment. While most of the teams went for a qualifying simulation today, we decided to focus on race pace and on all those things a rookie needs to practice, like starts and pit-stops. Everything went according to plans, and Van Buuren’s confidence with the car kept improving with each outing. Today’s strategy meant that we saved two set of new rubber, we plan to use those tomorrow to see what kind of performance we’ll be able to achieve when going for a quick laptime”.
