Roberto Merhi joins Zeta Corse
Russian owned WSR 3.5 Zeta Corse team will trust Roberto Merhi with one of their cars for the 2014 campaign after two years of DTM. After the Jerez testing , the team and engineers are convinced that the spaniard is ready to speed up even if he had not been in a single seater for 28 months before the tests, since the F.3 2011 Euroseries and FIA Trophy champion showed very good progress.
Team principal Roman Novikov said: «We are sure that we’ve selected one of the most talented junior drivers in the world for this role. We know that with his great speed and feedback he will be a great asset to the team and that he can be perfectly Formula 1 material. We’ll try to help him to achieve that goal. On the other side we would like to thank HWA for allowing Roberto to combine his duties in DTM with WSR 3.5».
Roberto Merhi: «I am really grateful for the opportunity I’am given by Zeta Corse. I’am sure that they will provide me with a good car in order to compete at the front of the field. I’ ll be working almost with the same engineer and mechanics I worked with when I tested the car, in november 2008. There are many very good young talents in this championship, for me it will be a hard task. The car is great, we were 1.5 seconds short of the F1 times in Jerez 2 weeks ago, and with the new regulations it will be very challenging to drive it to the limits. Right now I’m just looking forward to Monza».
