AVF press Release – Troublefree Practices for AVF in Monza F.Renault 3.5 opener
The F.Renault 3.5 season kicked off today under a warm sun in Monza, and AVF enjoyed a troublefree day of work that saw their cars complete a total of 78 laps without a single glitch. The Spanish team managed by Adrian Vallés made the most of a mileage to carry out a complex set-up work programme, with both Zoel Amberg and Beitske Visser performing flawlessly. Swiss talent Amberg opted of a qualifying-oriented trim in the morning session, a choice that rewarded him with the third quickest time with a 1’34″423. With the “single-lap performance” box checked, in the afternoon Zoel and the team focused on a race simulation with an high fuel load and old tyres: in those conditions, the 1’35″419 clocked by the #20 was again a great achievement.
Being at her debut in a F.Renault 3.5 race weekend, Ducth youngster Visser had different aims than her more experienced team-mate. Beitske focused mainly on learning the track and the behaviour of the car in low downforce trim, a very peculiar setup that is used in Monza alone and makes the car very light and treacherous, especially under braking.
Zoel Amberg: S1 – P3; S2 – P19
“I’m happy of today’s work. In the morning we decided to use one set of new tyres to set a quick laptime, and we immediately climbed at the top of the sheets with a very good lap. That done, in the afternoon we only ran with a lot of fuel and very worn tyres, so a lap over the 1’35” mark was expected. All in all it was a good day, I hope that will be translated in a very good performance in tomorrow’s qualifying too”.
Beitske Visser: S1 – P20; S2 – P21
“I had learned a lot in pre-season testing already, but I’m learning even more now. A race weekend is very different and more difficult than a test, mainly because you have less time to get up to speed. It means more pressure, but I’m learning to cope with this new odds and I’m progressing. Most importantly I’m having fun, in Monza the car is a blast to drive, it’s really mind-boggling”.
