ATS Formula 3 Cup to kick off its 39th season
Kevin Magnussen is the newest contestant in the highest class of Formula racing who earned his spurs in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. Drivers from all over the world, who have already secured top podium places in their career, will be back in the grid in the support programme of the ADAC GT Masters at Oschersleben for the 2014 season. Contesting the ATS Formula 3 Cup, they intend to complete their general qualification for motorsports. The ATS Formula 3 Cup can also announce a new round of the Ravenol Media Award as well as the opening of an online shop for its 39th season. A T-shirt will be the first of several new merchandising items to come.
The past few months have been dominated by dry conditions and mild temperatures. In contrast to the previous year, drivers and teams could therefore prepare well for the season. The season opener at etropolis Motorsport Arena Oschersleben will kick off the 39th season of the German Formula 3. Familiar teams from last year, including ADM Motorsport, Amkon Motorsport, Lotus, Motopark and Van Amersfoort Racing, will be joined by new teams like JBR Motorsport & Engineering in the battle against the competitors. A new engine concept proved to be attractive for the teams. Starting with the 2014 season, teams and drivers contesting the ATS Formula 3 Cup are allowed to use conventional Formula 3 power units again. This way, the ATS Formula 3 Cup gives a clear signal towards FIA conformity and positions itself as the foundation of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. “The German Formula 3 is a logical step for anyone who wants to get to the top, starting from a junior series where they enjoy sound training,” explains Sebastian Wittrisch, Head of Organisation of the ATS Formula 3 Cup. “Kevin Magnussen is contesting his first Formula 1 season, Rahel Frey will compete in the ADAC GT Masters once again and the top 3 drivers of the 2013 season have made the successful step into the GP3 and GP2.”
Off the track
The Formula 3 Association intends to not only prepare the young talents for their future through practice in the car, but also with initiatives like the Ravenol Media Award, which is endowed with a prize money of 5,000 Euros. Freddy Killensberger’s very creative cross-media project convinced the international jury in 2013. This year, members include Martin Huning, Ravenol Motorsport Director, Katrin Wolff, Managing Editor of Auto Bild Motorsport magazine, Bettina Eichhammer, ATS Formula 3 Cup spokeswoman, and two additional media representatives.
New: Fan T-shirt “approved since 1975”
The new ATS Formula 3 Cup merchandising shop will offer a T-shirt, which is branded with the colours of the racing series and shows the logo “approved since 1975”, based on the fact that the German Formula 3 is the most consistent national series. The textile keepsake is available in sizes XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL at a price of 19.99 Euros including shipping and can be ordered in the ATS Formula 3 Cup online shop at www.formel3.de/shop.
