Formula Renault 3.5 – Zeta Corse cruises to the top-5 at Motorland Aragon
It’s been a positive day for the Zeta Corse stable at Motorland Aragón, where the team’s two drivers, Spaniard Roberto Mehri and Russian Roman Mavlanov, lined-up for the second round of the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 season. In the two practice sessions, the team got took advantage of two 50-minute runs in order to perfection their set-up for the rest of the weekend. In the first practice, Mehri worked in race conditions and progressively increased his feeling with the car and track.
After using only older tires in the morning session, Mehri moved to sticker slicks during the afternoon, improving consistently and ending up with a very positive fourth place. On a windy day, with conditions that complicated the work of the teams, Mavlanov had a tougher run at the Spanish venue. After starting well in Practice 1, he experienced some unexpected struggles in the second session, ending the day with a 17th and a 20th place. The Zeta Corse staff is now working hard in order to prepare for their next run, set for Qualifying 1 on Saturday at 10:20.
Roberto Merhi: S1 – P15; S2 – P4
“In the second session of practice things went much better than in Practice 1, when we had used older tires and we were a little behind compared to the others. Also, in the afternoon my quickest lap hasn’t been perfect so there is room to improve even further. In addition to that, the general feeling with the car is getting better every lap. By now we aim for a spot in the top-10, then we’ll go on and see what happens”.
Roman Mavlanov: S1 – P17; S2 – P20
“Things didn’t go well in the second practice session also compared to the first one. I still don’t know what was the problem and we have some work to do so we can possibly be back fighting for the top-10 like in Monza.”
