Third place for ISR and Jaafar in Monaco practice
The most awaited and glamorous event of the World Series by Renault season, the Monte Carlo round, has kicked-off in style for ISR. This morning, in the only Free Practice session available to the F.Renault 3.5 teams, the Czech outfit brought their car to 3rd place thanks to a flawless setup work and to a great drive from Jazeman Jaafar. The Malayasian talent, who already finished third last year in Monaco, kept second place for most of the session and only traffic caused by slower cars, a common issue on a street circuit such as this, prevented him from improving his laptime in the final minutes, forcing him to settle for third.
The good performance obtained in this Practice session could prove vital for the outcome of the weekend, as in the compressed Monaco schedule the next time the cars will go on track will already mean Qualifying.
Considering their amazing record in Monaco, that includes a win clinched in 2012 with Sam Bird at the wheel, the ISR staff are confident that this third place faithfully reflects the team’s potential, and that a win could be well in their reach.
Igor Salaquarda – Team Principal
“In the Principality our performances have always been great, as proved by our win two years ago with Sam Bird. Bearing that in mind, we came here with high expectations and I’m happy to see that we are living up to that. Jaafar’s third place could have been better if he wasn’t slowed down by traffic on new tyres, but that doesn’t matter today: the setup is perfect, that’s what really counts, and we know that Jazeman is quick on this track as he got a podium finish last year. All in all, I’m really looking forward to Qualifying”.
