ATS Formel 3 Cup – Santino Ferrucci to contest for Eurointernational
The international starting grid of the ATS Formula 3 Cup is going to have a new addition. Santino Ferrucci and the Italian team of Antonio Ferrari, Eurointernational, are going to join the battle for championship points in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. The American of Italian origin has set his sights high for his debut season in German Formula 3. Besides contesting the ATS Formula 3 Cup, he and his team will also take part in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The 16-year old will get a first chance to face his competition at the third round of German Formula 3 at Red Bull Ring.
During tests at Valencia, Spain the then 15-year old made a very positive impression. Having switched from karting to Formula racing, Santino Ferrucci immediately set the fastest time during his first session in a single-seater, a fact that impressed the team principal of Eurointernational, Antonio Ferrari. “Santino will be 16 in the week of his first ever race in Europe and German Formula 3. In Santino I have found an incredible talent for his age. He has a professional approach I have never seen in a 16-year old driver before.”
From karting to the fastest national single-seater series
Santino Ferrucci can hardly wait for his debut in the ATS Formula 3 Cup, the next step in his career. “I like the history of the series, the tracks it races at and the high level of competition,” says the young talent from Woodbury, Connecticut. “I followed the races so far a little bit, but the results don’t always tell the story. I will say that they all seem fast and are very close.” Ferrucci intends to use his stint in the fastest national single-seater series for learning, in order to successfully complete the general qualification for motorsports. Since the Formula vehicles and the European racetracks are new territory for the Ayrton Senna fan he intends to improve and make progress in every single race. Contesting both a national and international race series in the same season is a welcome challenge for Ferrucci. “I look forward to the challenge of different tyres and different gear boxes. Later in my career changing tyres from session to session will be common, so I hope to learn this skill already now.”
Successful combination of driver, car and team
With Eurointernational, the young talent will have a team at his side that has been a great partner of the ATS Formula 3 Cup for years. Team principal Ferrari has set his sights on winning in Styria, relying on his combination of a good driver and the Mercedes engine. “Last time at Red Bull Ring in 2012 with Tom Blomqvist, we won twice from the pole and finished second in the reverse-grid race,” remembers the Italian. “We will aim for this result next week with Santino!” In its history, the Eurointernational Group has won thirty championship titles in the United States and Europe. With a total of 600 races, Eurointernational Group is among the elite racing organisations around the world. The competition will have to watch out.
