F.Renault 3.5 – Solid points finish for Jaafar in Spa Race 2
The second race of the F.Renault 3.5 weekend in Spa-Francorchamps saw another solid showing from ISR and Jazeman Jaafar. After climbing on the podium twice in the last two races, the talent from Malaysia delivered another strong performance to finish in sixth place, adding more points to his championship tally. After a good qualifying session in which he posted the fifth quickest time, Jaafar lined-up on the grid on Row 3 and once the lights went off he delivered a good start, throwing himself in a heated fight for position at the La Source hairpin. Unluckily, Jazeman’s good getaway got him right behind Sirotkin and Fantin, and when the pair collided at Les Combes the ISR driver had to back off to avoid being collected, hence losing contact with the front pack.
Lapping on the same pace of the frontrunners but not quick enough to make up considerable ground, Jaafar decided to play it safe and after a perfect pit-stop from the team he cruised to the finish taking a deserved P6.
Jazeman Jaafar: Q2 – P5; R2 – P6
“My start was good, but after that things got pretty hectic in the front pack. I had to fend off a couple of attacks at Turn 1, and then got a good tow down Eau Rouge. Things were looking good, I was set for some overtaking, but things didn’t go to plan as Sirotkin and Fantin collided just in front of me. I had to slow down a lot to avoid them, and then I wasn’t quick enough to make up the lost ground. P6 isn’t too bad, but my race pace today wasn’t as quick as yesterday, so we still have some work to do to get in Moscow in the best possible shape”.
