Formula 3 Association appoints Andreas Meyer Chairman
The Formula 3 Association set the course for the future in the annual meeting at Nürburgring last weekend by electing a new Board. Bertram Schäfer, one of the founding members of the Association, will move into the role of the deputy chairman after just under two years, handing over the reins to Andreas Meyer. The former ADAC sports director and former promoter of the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Hockenheim aims to bring the ATS Formula 3 Cup back to a high competitive level in collaboration with Schäfer.
The professional career of the new Chairman of the Formula 3 Association has been marked by challenges. The trained jurist started his career in motorsports in the AvD and became the motorsports director after two years. Andreas Meyer was responsible for the realisation of the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Hockenheim. Several more Grand Prix both in Europe and overseas followed. The native of Wiesbaden took on a new challenge with the ADAC in Munich after 21 years. Meyer was appointed ADAC sports director and subsequently worked in that function for ten years.
For the future of the ATS Formula 3 Cup
In his role of the Chairman Andreas Meyer will be responsible for the future course of the Formula 3 Association. “I am really pleased that we could win Andreas Meyer for the German Formula 3,” says Bertram Schäfer, who will be the Deputy Chairman from now on. “He will be an asset for the entire Formula 3 Association, considering his experience and his desire to tackle new challenges.” Andreas Meyer and the Formula 3 Association have known each other for several decades. In 1989, he made it possible for the junior series to be part of the support programme of Formula 1 events. “I am fully convinced that we can establish the ATS Formula 3 Cup firmly again in motorsports,” says Meyer. “The importance of a German junior series is indisputable. Now, we need to bring it to the next level. We will continue!”
Formula 3 Association with new Board
There were several more changes in the Board of the Formula 3 Association. Eddy Tietze will be an assessor, supporting treasurer Wolfgang Neumayer as well as assessor Manfred Scherzinger. Tietze used to be a member of Bertram Schäfer’s racing team and has been a long-time employee of the Association. Sebastian Wittrisch left the Board and will focus on his role as the Head of Organisation in the future.
Angelika Scherzinger will be the cash auditor from now on, taking over from Alfred Lohr. The former member of the Board resigns for private reasons.
