GDL RACING SUBITO AL “TOP” NELLA NASCAR WHELEN EURO SERIES
La GDL Racing scopre (si fa per dire) l’America. Sul circuito di Magione, lo scorso fine settimana, la squadra sammarinese ha fatto il suo debutto ufficiale nella Nascar Whelen Euro Series, categoria che affronta come negli USA sia tracciati stradali che ovali, ed è subito riuscita ad inserirsi nelle posizioni “top”.
Al via con la potente Dodge numero 67 il pilota-team manager Gianluca De Lorenzi, al quale solamente per un problema meccanico nella finale è sfuggito un risultato da podio nella classe Elite 1, quella riservata ai “Pro”, con un totale di 25 vetture al via.
Subito davanti a tutti nelle primo gruppo delle qualifiche, con la pista bagnata, De Lorenzi è poi scivolato quattordicesimo (nel turno del secondo gruppo l’asfalto si è andato man mano ad asciugarsi). Quindi, in Gara 1, si è prodigato in una strepitosa rimonta non esente da sportellate (che in questo tipo di competizioni fanno anche parte del gioco e dello spettacolo) e che lo ha visto risalire sesto e primo tra i rookie.
Autore del quinto giro più veloce, in virtù del regolamento del campionato De Lorenzi è partito appunto quinto in Gara 2 e davanti ai 5000 spettatori presenti ha ancora recuperato due posizioni portandosi terzo. Infine, dopo tre giri, il ritiro a causa della rottura dell’albero della trasmissione.
Per De Lorenzi e la GDL Racing si è comunque trattato di un esordio più che positivo, con un solo test al loro attivo svolto in precedenza. In ogni caso il primo approccio con il mondo della Nascar, categoria regina negli “States”, è stato straordinario per la squadra sammarinese, che adesso guarda alla prossima trasferta francese di Le Mans, che si disputerà nel fine settimana dell’11 e 12 ottobre.

GDL Racing discoveres America. At Magione – Italy – the San Marino based squad made last weekend its official debut in the Nascar Whelen Euro Series and put itself immediately among the top teams.
Gianluca De Lorenzi, at the wheel of the numer 67 Dodge, was next to achieve the podium in the Elite 1, the class reserved to the “Pro” drivers, with 25 cars to contest the crown.
With the wet track, De Lorenzi topped the chart in Group 1 qualifying but missed to enter the top-ten and finished 14th after the track bacame dry in the Group 2. In Race 1 the driver and GDL Racing team manager recovered well, not avoiding some spectacular contacts, and scored the sixth position and the first among the rookies.
After having set the fifth quickest lap, De Lorenzi started from fifth place in Race 2 and moved on third in front of 5000 spectators. Unfortunately after three laps he had to stop due to a trasmission failure.
It was a stunning debut in the Nascar championship (that includes oval and regular tracks) for De Lorenzi and GDL Racing team, who were able to manage only one test before. Next round is scheduled for the 11-12 of October at Le Mans.
