ATS Formel 3 Cup – Will Indy Dontje win the 2014 Rookie title?

An international grid will contest the big finale of the ATS Formula 3 Cup in the support programme of the ADAC GT Masters. The championship has already been wrapped up; Neckarsulm-based Markus Pommer from Team Lotus has won the title. This weekend will show whether his team-mate Indy Dontje will decide the finale in his favour. The 21-year old Dutchman has been leading the rookie ranking from the start. However Briton Sam MacLeod, who contests with Van Amersfoort Racing, could still pose a threat to him at the 4.574-km Hockenheimring. Three new drivers intend to use their chance to prove themselves: Nicolas Beer will contest for Eurointernational, Konstantin Tereschenko will be at the wheel of an ADM Motorsport vehicle and the Franz Wöss Racing team complete their driver line-up with Nikolaj Rogivue.

The Hockenheimring also hosted the “Stuttgarter Rössle” with the ATS Formula 3 Cup in the support programme back in June. At that event, Malaysian Nabil Jeffri from Team Motopark, Briton Sam MacLeod from Van Amersfoort Racing and Neckarsulm-based Markus Pommer from Team Lotus won one race each. The latter already claimed the coveted championship title at the previous racing weekend. The fight for the runner-up title will be decided at Hockenheimring. Jeffri, MacLeod and Dutchman Indy Dontje from Team Lotus are contenders for that title. The 21-year old from Schoorl also intends to decide the rookie championship in his favour. However, MacLeod could thwart these plans. This promises a lot of excitement for the Hockenheim round.

Testing under challenging conditions
The ATS Formula 3 Cup attracts big interest; an international grid will contest the final round. Nicolas Beer will contest with Antonio Ferrari’s Italian team Eurointernational. The Dane successfully completed the Formel ADAC series in 2013 and wants to assess his potential for the 2015 season. Euroformula Open contestant Konstantin Tereschenko from Russia, who will be at the wheel of an ADM Motorsport vehicle, and Swiss Nikolaj Rogivue from the Franz Wöss Racing team are also new additions to the grid of the German Formula 3. Rogivue won the title of the Swiss karting series Rotax Max Challenge and will contest the World Finals at Valencia in November. Once again, this shows that both the ATS Formula 3 Cup and the Formel ADAC are a well-respected first step into single-seater open-wheel racing.

The eighth event on the calendar marks the finale of the German Formula 3. Live timing and a live stream will be available worldwide for all races (Saturday at 3.50 p.m. / Sunday at 10.45 a.m. and 4.50 p.m.) at www.formel3.de. In addition, TV stations Sport 1 and Kabel 1 will broadcast highlights of the racing weekends a few days later.
