Acceleration 14 – EXCITING FA1 QUALIFICATIONS AT TT CIRCUIT ASSEN
ACCELERATION started her season’s finale on the TT Circuit in Assen, The Netherlands. Championship leader Nigel Melker (NLD) did a very good job on the first qualification and starts from P1 in the first race. P2 is for the Spanish Dani Clos, which had his debut in the FA1 season. The former Formula 1 test driver and GP2 driver was very fast in the formula car as well, especially in the second qualification. Clos starts the second race from pole position. Melker closes the first starting row and said: “We have a new set of Michelin tyres left, so that will be useful for the second race. It will gain some profit at the start and for the first 10 laps or so.”
Melker’s biggest opponent, Italian Mirko Bortolotti, is unfortunately not taking part in the season’s finale. “It is too bad that he is not here. Officially that makes me the winner of the championship, but I had preferred becoming champion in a different way. My goal therefore is to drive as a champion and to try to win both races”, Melker explains. Bortolotti’s car – team Italy – will be driven by Sergio Campana (ESP), who starts from P3 in both races.
