AVF rookies impress in collective Eurocup F.Renault 2.0 test at Jerez
There were no breaks for AVF by Adrián Vallés at Jerez, as the Spanish squad lined-up today, Monday October 20th, for the start of the Eurocup F.Renault 2.0 postseason activity at the Andalusian venue. After a brilliant weekend in the Renault 3.5 finale, the team continued to impress in the feeder category with three quick rookies: Mexican Patricio O’Ward, Brit Harrison Scott, and Italian Alessio Lorandi. All of that despite the fact that none of them had previous experiences on the Formula Renault car.
Coming from the Formula 4 France series, O’Ward delivered a stunning performance despite being only 15 years old. In the AM session, he cruised to 4th place amid drivers coming from a full Eurocup season. In the afternoon, he scored 8th but consistently reduced his gap to the front to 585 thousands of a second, with a sensational progression.
Lining-up for the first time at Jerez, Scott also did an amazing job by hitting the top-10 in the morning. In the afternoon he finished 11th, less then one second away from the leader. And with just one more run, another top-10 would have easily been in his frame.
Last but not least, Lorandi was a great surprise. Coming from kart racing and running for the first time on an open-wheel car in a proper test, he ended up 16th in the AM session and only a spin by another driver prevented him from improving even further in the afternoon. Once again, with more running, a top-10 could have been achievable which was amazing considering his limited experience.
For the AVF staff won’t have any time to catch their breath. They are already preparing for the 2-day Formula Renault 3.5 test scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
