Zeta Corse rounds out Aragon test with up-and-down day
In a clear but windy day in Alcaniz, Zeta corse completed the three-day test scheduled at the Motorland Aragon venue by the Formula Renault 3.5 series. The team ran with Swede Gustav Malja, who was once again rejoined by Russian Vasily Romanov. After discovering an engine problem on Malja’s car yesterday evening, the team worked hard until midnight to replace his powerplant. Unfortunately, he experienced a lack of straight line speed today, being slower than his team-mate. The gremlins didn’t allow Gustav to repeat the great performance levels showcased on Monday and Tuesday, when he had ended his best sessions respectively in 1st and 2nd. Anyway, he almost managed to get into the top-10 in the morning, which was remarkable, all considered. On the other hand, Romanov continued to climb his learning curve with the new car, getting more experience under his belt and pleasantly impressing the engineers with a 16th and a 17th position.
Roman Novikov – Team Principal
“We’re trying to understand what happened because the performance of Malja’s car hasn’t been up to what we expected. A chronic lack of top speed prevented Gustaf from fighting for the top spots as he demonstrated in the previous session. Apart from today, we are extremely satisfied with what he accomplished. He convinced us from the very first minute, showing that Zeta Corse can stay on top also with a rookie and not only with veterans like Merhi, with whom we got phenomenal results this year. I’m also happy with what I saw from Romanov, who was at his first runs in the Renault 3.5 too. In the two days he spent with us, he successfully got acquainted with the Dallara-Zytek car and I also haven’t forgotten the great Monday runs by fellow rookie Deletraz”.
