With the ATS Formula 3 Cup to the top

The ATS Formula 3 Cup Champion does not only win the title and receive a cheque; to top it all they also get the opportunity to complete a test in the World Series by Renault. Since the newly-crowned champion Markus Pommer from Team Lotus is currently preparing for the Macau Grand Prix his team-mate, rookie champion Indy Dontje, stepped on the gas. The 21-year old Dutchman tested a vehicle in Spain. The Formel ADAC champion also gets a chance to test the potential next step on the career ladder. Dane Mikkel Jensen spent the last two days at Nürburgring testing a Formula 3 vehicle with Van Amersfoort Racing.

The 2014 ATS Formula 3 Cup rookie champion Indy Dontje from the Netherlands is currently evaluating all options. A test in the World Series by Renault fitted well in this endeavour. Although the ATS Formula 3 Cup champion is entitled to complete a test in the Formula One young driver programme Neckarsulm-based Markus Pommer is currently preparing for the Macau Grand Prix. The test in the Comtec Racing team was a great experience for lucky Dontje: “The engine has almost twice as much horse power as a Formula 3 car. The speed was the main difference and the aerodynamics are really high in the Renault which was really hard to get used to but I enjoyed it a lot,” explains Dontje, who successfully finished the 2014 season third in the overall ranking. “It was great to drive, the speed, the aero, it was fantastic! I want to thank the ATS Formula 3 Cup and their partners for this great opportunity.”

Sebastian Wittrisch, Head of Organisation of the ATS Formula 3 Cup: “We are very pleased to have a reliable partner with the World Series by Renault. Together with us they have been supporting young talents on their way to the top for years. We are also glad to support the logical step from Formel ADAC to the next series. The collaboration with the ADAC is fantastic.”

Contesting with Neuhauser Racing, Dane Mikkel Jensen made it to the top in the Formel ADAC. The series will be replaced by the ADAC Formula 4 in 2015. The champion spent the last two days at Nürburgring with Dutch team Van Amersfoort Racing. “Mikkel proved to be a real surprise! He did a great job and put in a fantastic performance driving,” says Team Principal Frits Van Amersfoort. “We would like to continue working with him very much.” Jensen was at the wheel of the Dallara F311 Volkswagen which was driven by Weiron Tan this season. “The biggest difference for sure is the downforce. But I learned it quite quickly today,” says the 19-year old. “In Formel ADAC there are different ways to drive the car, and you don’t really need a special driving style. In Formula 3 I found out that the car really reacts to everything you are doing.” Nothing has been decided on Jensen’s future yet.
