Will Burns reached the halfway point in this season’s Ginetta GT4 Supercup championship last weekend, and is already hard at work preparing to score his maiden GT4 win of his career.

The Weston-super-Mare racer rates the report card of the first half of his season with top squad HHC Motorsport as a “B to B minus”. The opening five weekends of the year have been filled with highs as well as lows for Burns.

The season has been successful so far, with six podium finishes from the opening 14 races, the highest of which took place at Thruxton in Hampshire. Broadcast live on ITV4, Burns had looked set for his first win, leading throughout the race only for a rival to beat him to the flag in the closing stages using fresher tyres.

That race concluded a hat trick of podium finishes over the course of the weekend. Burns was on a real roll at that point with momentum gained from the opening two weekends of the year.

Since that point in May though, a mixture of bad luck as well as mechanical faults have stuttered his progress. But Burns is already seeking to kick start his season back into life when the championship returns after its break at Snetterton in Norfolk on August 8/9.

Following his Thruxton success, Burns sat a comfortable third in the points behind both of his HHC team-mates. After his recent misfortunes, he is eager to re-claim his spot.
“The story of my season has been so far, so good with HHC,” says Burns. “My report would be a B to B minus. I’ve been happy with the results as far as possible, but luck just hasn’t been on my side in the last couple of rounds.

“I’m confident though that I can bounce back to similar form that I had at the start of the season. The weekend at Thruxton was undoubtedly my standout performance and I certainly carried a lot of momentum in the opening three weekends.

“I’m going to work extremely hard over the half term break. There’s eight weeks of downtime for some drivers, but we’ve already planned some test sessions, including one at Snetterton where we head to next. I’m determined to get that third place in the points, and claim it my own. A race victory would also be very important to me.

“I’d finally like to thank Eurocams Ltd for coming onboard as a sponsor this season. Their support has been very valuable and I’m looking forward to working with them over the course of the second half of the year. I want to get back out on track now!”
