Double home win for Terting and Struwe in Competition102 GT4 European Series
Peter Terting and Carsten Struwe have won both races of the Competition102 GT4 European Series in the PRO division on home soil. The Porsche Cayman 981 SP drivers mastered the wet conditions at the Nürburgring very well and surprised the competition with their unbeatable lap times. Håkan Ricknäs (SWE) won the first race in the AM division, while AM driver Pavel Lefterov (BGR) took the overall win in race two.
Terting and Struwe started their GT4 campaign well with an impressive win in race one. After Struwe handed over the Porsche to Terting, the former DTM and WTCC driver lapped the track quicker than any of his rivals, took the lead and created a nine-second gap. Jörg Viebahn (GER) drove competitive lap times too and passed the finish line in second place after having started from eleventh. He successfully held off Simon Knap (NED) / Rob Severs (NED) who’ve brought the Ekris BMW M3 GT4 home in third place. Championship leaders Jelle Beelen (NED) / Marcel Nooren (NED) finished in sixth behind Chevron GT4 racers Marcus Clutton (GBR) / Jordan Witt (GBR) and Ricknäs who took victory in the AM division driving the Porsche 911 GT4.Starting from fourth in race two, Terting got in front quickly and extended his lead lap after lap. When teammate Struwe took over for the second half of the race, only AM driver Lefterov formed a threat to the overall win. The Bulgarian youngster managed to pass his rival and took the chequered flag first. “In the first race we received a penalty because the pit stop was too short and now we could really push in front,” said Lefterov. “Thanks to the team for preparing the Lotus Evora GT4 so well. I had the entire race a big smile on my face.”
It was an emotional race weekend for Terting, who was thrilled to take two wins in the PRO division. “I’m super happy for the team. They gave me a great car and I could drive super fast. It has been a while since I’ve held a trophy with number one in my hands,” said Terting. “I couldn’t imagine winning both races as I didn’t exactly know what to expect of the car. But I did know a few other guys from WTCC like Duncan Huisman and he’s very good. I’m really happy and hopefully we can continue in Misano.”
Duncan Huisman (NED) / Luc Braams (NED) finished second in the PRO division after a fierce battle with Knap and Severs who took another trophy home. Daniel Uckermann (GER) finished second in the AM class behind Lefterov and in front of Swedish debutants Milton Lundström / Joakim Söderström.
Championship leaders Beelen / Nooren didn’t finish in podium position for the first time this season, but the Chevrolet Camaro GT4 drivers remain on top of the drivers’ standings in the PRO division. Uckermann still leads in the AM category.
The final two races of the Competition102 GT4 European Series are taking place 2 – 4 October at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy, partnering the Blancpain Sprint Series.
