Daniel Uckermann secures AM title in Competition102 GT4 European Series

Daniel Uckermann wrote history at the Nürburgring by claiming the AM championship in the Competition102 GT4 European Series with the new KTM X-BOW GT4 race car. The German driver for team ZaWotec secured four wins and scored not lower than third in six other races. This extraordinary performance was enough to be crowed as AM champion with one event to go.

Uckermann started the season at Nogaro, France, with two podium finishes, racing the Lotus Evora GT4 as the KTM X-BOW GT4 vehicle was in its final development phase. The purpose built GT4 race car by Reiter Engineering and KTM Sportcar made its world premiere in the second event of the Competition102 GT4 European Series held at Circuit Park Zandvoort in the Netherlands. Uckermann showcased his racing skills and the car’s capabilities by scoring two wins. The German was also victorious at the Red Bull Ring, beating his rivals twice. Even in wet conditions Uckermann stepped onto the podium four consecutive times. Having created a lead of 51 points over his nearest rival, nobody is able to pass him in AM drivers’ standings during the final two races at the Italian circuit Misano.
“I had never expected that we could go for the championship with a brand new race car. The ZaWotec team had a great vision and I’m extremely happy that we could secure the title before the final round,” said Uckermann. “I want to thank the entire team for preparing such a great car. We will now be focussing on the final races at Misano. I must be able to race with a clear head and with a lot of fun, although we’re still pushing to secure the teams’ title.”

“It has been a cool season with Daniel and the new car. We are very happy with winning the AM title,” said ZaWotec Team Principal Mario Wolf. “We were curious about what we could expect of the brand new KTM X-BOW GT4 when we began racing with it at Zandvoort. It went really well right from the start and after the team’s hard work throughout the season, it’s really overwhelming to secure the first championship win with Daniel and this car. We look forward to the final race weekend at Misano.”

The final two races of the Competition102 GT4 European Series will be held on 2 – 4 October at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy. The PRO championship has yet to be decided.
