Both cars to the finish line for AVF in Le Mans

AVF by Adrián Vallés had both the team’s car running at the end of race 2 on Sunday, with the eight round of the 2015 Formula Renault 3.5 series reaching its completion at the French Le Mans venue. The Spanish squad saw Alfonso Celis Jr. cross the line in 14th place, followed by team-mate Beitske Visser. Unfortunately, the Mexican was later penalized 10 seconds for going beyond the track limits, handing his position to the Dutch racer and having to settle for 26th. The day had started with qualifying 2, which was interrupted to clean the track surface from the oil lost by a rival car on the front straight. The race also got some drama, with the safety-car being called on-track due to a contact happened at the first corner.

Alfonso Celis Jr. (#15) Qualifying 2: P10 1’21”650 – Race 2: P16 +31”233

“I’m disappointed for the penalty. Everybody went beyond the track limits, but I was the only one to be penalized for that. It’s been a really hard decision and unfortunately I cannot reverse it now. I learned what is the weakness I have to work on for the next season, but I had good chemistry with the car and a good pace. The crash caused a little bit of a melee, which cost me valuable time, and the penalty did the rest”.

Beitske Visser (#16) Qualifying 2: P15 1’21”934 – Race 2: P13 +26”834

“The mistake I made yesterday made destroyed the tires so I had to start today’s session with 150-kilometer old ones. The resulting performance gap was quite evident and I didn’t even have the chance to find the real limit of the car. My start wasn’t great, but we got some spots back at the pit-stop, ending up in the same position as yesterday”.

The next round for the Formula Renault 3.5 will be on the 18th of October at Jerez
