Canamasas sets ambitious goals for Sochi
Just one month after Canamasas scored four points on the Italian GP, the only Spanish GP2 racer will be back in action for Team Lazarus. In 2014, Canamasas was fighting for the lead in race 2 but was forced to retire after experiencing alternator issues.
Sergio Canamasas is about to travel to Russia for the penultimate round of the GP2 Series. The Sochi Autodromo, the street circuit running around the Sochi Olympic Park in Krasnodar Krai, hosts two new races of the GP2 Series, considered the official F1 feeder series.
For Team Lazarus driver, Sochi brings to mind mixed feelings. Last year, Canamasas adapted quickly as took 10th spot in qualifying and then bringing 7th place home on Saturday. Unfortunately, in Sunday´s sprint race, the Catalan driver was forced to retire when was challenging Marco Sorensen for the win.
Canamasas, after securing a fine sixth place finish at Monza struggling with brake problems, explains that “it feel so good to be back racing next weekend. The waiting seemed to go on forever! Our last event took place more than a month ago. I really like I really like Sochi, but I still have unfinished business with this racetrack. Alternator issues ruined my win chances while running in second last year”. Besides, the driver adds that “a number of factors prevented us from qualifying properly and, despite I managed to put on several remarkable recovery drives, we need to secure a good grid position for Saturday´s race as well. I hope to amend this in Russia. So I really hope Lady Luck smiles on us this time”.
Friday will be devoted to free practice (12.00) and qualifying (16.00) sessions. Then both races will take place on Saturday (14.40) and Sunday (09.05).
