Álvaro Fontes is heading towards a nail-biting season ending in the Spanish Endurance Championship. The Spanish driver approaches another thrilling weekend at the Autodromo do Estoril, in neighbouring Portugal.
The Malaga-born racer is completing a very positive season and, despite early retirement in Race 2 in Los Arcos, still sits second in the SEAT León Trophy, Clase 1 and D1. At the moment, Fontes has a 10 point deficit to Jaume Font and Marcos de Diego in both Clase 1 and D1, and only three to the same drivers in the single make trophy. Mirco van Oostrum, who was replaced by Spaniard Jordi Oriola in Navarra, makes his comeback teaming up with Fontes at the wheel of the SEAT León Cup Racer of Pep Codinach´s team.
“We arrive at the important moment of the championship and any mistake can be costly as there is no maneuvering room. My goal is to get a strong result because it is crucial not to lose ground in title fight. If I manage to take the lead it will be even better!”, Fontes explains, remarking one of the highlights at Estoril, “Ayrton Senna achieved his maiden win in Formula 1, so I am always really excited about driving there. I already know the racetrack and, in fact, I even drove a Ferrari 430 GT2 four years ago. Weather may play a key role due to influence of the Atlantic Ocean”.
Both races take place on Sunday at 10.25 and 15.15, local time.
