Álvaro Fontes beats rivals for SEAT and CER titles

Three out of three for Álvaro Fontes. The Malaga-born driver was in title contention in the SEAT León Trophy, D1 and Clase in the Spanish Endurance championship and PCR Sport racer managed to achieve them at the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya. Sharing the SEAT León Cup Racer with Mikel Azcona, he stepped on the podium again.

Álvaro Fontes finished his season in style and achieved a historic result in the Spanish Endurance championship. Spaniard Fontes achieved triple title win in the series last weekend and became champion in SEAT León Trophym D1 and Clase 1 with PCR Sport-entered SEAT León Cup Racer. The season came to an end in Barcelona and Fontes couldn´t have produced a better result.

After free practice testing on Saturday, Fontes and young gun Mikel Azcona proved to be extremely competitive and one of the strongest lineups of any team. So, on Sunday Pep Codinach´s drivers managed to secure pole position setting two laps of 1:54.549 and 1:55.622 and starting at the front of the almost 50-car field. Fontes made the opening stint and focused on avoiding any incident and keeping the car in one piece without compromising the result. Always in podium contention, Fontes handed over to Azcona after pit stop. Azcona brought third place home and Fontes took title wins in SEAT León Trophy, D1 and Clase 1.
“I can´t put my feelings into words! It is a nice feeling to be proclaimed champion in three different classes. I wish to thank everybody who has supported me throughout the season: my family, friends and everyone else. Of course, I have to stress how incredible PCR Sport was the whole season. My teammates Mirco van Oostrum, Jordi Oriola and Mikel Azcona also played a key role to achieve this year´s results”, Fontes reported after the podium ceremony. He highlighted “it was a particularly challenging race due to traffic with such a huge number of cars on track. Despite Mikel went off in another competitor´s oil, he rejoined to take the flag third. It was incredible to secure another podium!”.
