Canamasas confident going into tomorrow in Bahrain
Spaniard Canamasas will start from the 8th row at the wheel of his Team Lazarus Dallara in Bahrain. Canamasas, 6th on his first set of tires, couldn´t improve on his second set of fresh tires as track conditions changed and they didn´t fit his car settings.
Sergio Canamasas will start Friday´s GP2 race at Shakir International Circuit (Bahrain) 16th on the grid. Team Lazarus driver had a positive start in free practice session with 13th place but only five tenths off the pace. Later, in qualifying, Canamasas posted 6th-fastest time on his first set of tires but, when the Barcelona-born driver was on his second one, track conditions changed and the Spanish racer couldn´t improve his personal best lap enough to keep in the top-ten.
“We weren´t expecting that track change at the team. Our pace was rather good in free practice testing and then at the beginning of qualifying session as well. But suddenly asphalt changed at the end and our room for improvement wasn´t as good as others. In fact, I will start alongside my teammate, because everything is pretty close. Maybe we should have taken greater risks”, Canamasas explained. Tomorror, he expects “a good race ahead, because temperatures weren´t too high or at least not like they were in April but, anyway, tire wear management will be a key factor. I feel confident and our car should have a good race pace. It should help us on Friday.”
Feature race is due to start tomorrow at 15.30 (local time).
