No reward for Sergio Canamasas´ efforts

Spain´s driver moved up to 8th place at the beginning after a good race start but his tires suffered intense heat degradation during Saturday´s GP2 race in Bahrain. Canamasas struggled with car handling as final stage approached..

Sergio Canamasas´ efforts weren´t rewarded in race 2, held today at the Sakhir International Circuit. The Barcelona-born driver, 12th on the starting grid, avoided a first corner incident involving a number of cars and, after only the opening lap, he was 9th. Shortly after, he passed another rival for 8th in points finish. But his Team Lazarus-entered Dallara GP2/11 experienced severe tire wear before long. Despite Canamasas tried to keep rivals at bay, he dropped several places to finish 17th with an extremely hard car to handle.

“It was a frustrating Saturday for sure. We don´t really know what happened but my engineers and I need to give careful thought to. We made some set-up adjustments, but it was hotter than yesterday and it didn´t work. I didn´t overdrive or something like that, my pace was exactly the same as those in the field, but my tires went off pretty soon”, Canamasas underlined. Anyway, he is looking forward to “Abu Dhabi. We need to plan everything properly to have the best possible result at season finale event.”

The Yas Marina Circuit will host the final racing weekend of GP2 season next weekend.
