Fontes to drive GC10-V8 car at 500kms of Alcañiz
Only two weeks after being crowned champion in the Spanish Endurance series (SEAT León Trophy, D1 and Class 1), the Málaga-born driver will contest the 500 kilometers of Alcañiz at the wheel of a GC10-V8 entered by GC Automobile. Fontes will team up with Toni Castillo and Lionel Amrouche.
Álvaro Fontes will be back at the wheel of a racing car next weekend to take part at the 500 kilometers of Alcañiz, to be held at Motorland Aragón. Fontes, who recently secured titles in SEAT León Trophy, D1 and Class 1, will switch over to the GC10-V8 entered by GC Automobile, instead of the PCR Sport SEAT León Cup Racer used throughout the season.
The GC10-V8 features a tubular frame chassis and a Chevy-built V8 engine, which is capable of producing over 500hp. This model has proven to be quick, reliable at national and international level. Spaniard Toni Castillo and France´s Lionel Amrouche will share the GC10-V8.
“I am extremely proud to drive this new car. When you approach a race driving a new vehicle, it is always a sort of challenge. I am looking forward to starting the 500kms of Alcañiz with a car producing more than 500hp. My experience with GT cars should be helpful. The GC10-V8 has delivered good performances whenever it appeared. So, My feeling is good” Fontes remarks. Talking about his teammates, Fontes says “Toni is a good, old friend. Besides, he´s experienced. I never teamed up with Lionel but he showed a good pace earlier this year in the Spanish GT championship. I think our driver lineup is a very good one to fight for a good result. My season was almost perfect, so I´m eying to end the season like that!”
Fontes will have his first outing in the car on Friday during private testing. On Saturday, morning is devoted to additional free practice session and qualifying, the latter taking place at 11.30. The 4-hour race is due to start at 13.30.
