Sergio Canamasas targets good result in Abu Dhabi
The curtain will come down on the GP2 Series at a thrilling weekend at Yas Marina Circuit, always a spectacular end to the season and the venue for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Team Lazarus´ Canamasas feels confident with the set up going to Yas Marina after tire wear issues in Bahrain last weekend.
Sergio Canamasas is just a few hours away from the GP2 Series season finale. The season comes to an end at Yas Marina Circuit, the venue for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, an idyllic track to round off the season in style.
Just like previous rounds, Canamasas will drive one of the Team Lazarus-entered Dallara GP2/11 cars and his goal is to move up the field into points contention. Last weekend in Bahrain was particularly stressful for Canamasas, particularly Sunday´s race, as his car struggled with excessive tire degradation. Canamasas has carried out valuable work with his engineer and, with still a free practice session ahead, Spain´s driver has good prospects for the final round.
“Season finale is always a special moment of the season. I am fully confident our tire wear issues are completely solved and we will have a competitive car. I really like Yas Marina Circuit but, at the same time, is one of the toughest to pass other cars”, Canamasas explains, highlighting that “anyway DRS shall be a little bit of help. But it is almost mandatory to secure a good result in qualifying. Your position on the grid is always important, but here it plays a bigger role. We need to get the best out of our setup to be competitive enough in qualifying.”
Medium and super-soft Pirelli tires will be used this weekend. Races will take place on Saturday at 18.40 and on Sunday at 14.20.
