Sergio Canamasas finishes 5th fastest in GP2 testing
The main Formula 1 feeder series carried out the first collective tests of the season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with the Canamasas ending fifth on the time charts.
Spaniard Sergio Canamasas returned to GP2 Series action at home track Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and achieved an extremely promising result during the first collective tests of the season. Once again, he was the sole Spanish driver attending the tests and drove a Status GP-entered car during Thursday and Friday. Canamasas had his first outing on Thursday, setting a personal best lap of 1:29.103 in the morning and later in the afternoon, which was slower, posted a time of 1:30.063. On Friday, Canamasas finished in style by taking fifth spot despite he was losing tires and drove into traffic on his flying lap.
“It is always nice to drive at your home track and I really enjoyed both days at Status GP. I was warmly welcomed and working with my engineer we were able to try different settings” were his first words, stressing “on the final day we tried a more radical setup focusing on suspension geometry and it finally paid off. But anyway my goal was to finish first or second in the afternoon, but Pirelli tires only produce a real good lap and unfortunately several red flags ruined my first attempts. Besides, I had lapped traffic on my flying lap. Generally speaking, I am happy with my result. It was a positive two-day testing and now we must carefully examine all available options to have a competitive car for the upcoming season.”
