BE Motorsport achieves goals in Panda Raid
BE Motorsport is continuing its preparation for the 2016 season, when Spain´s squad will visit several of the world´s most famous venues for motorsport, and recently took part in Panda Raid 2016, in which more than 200 cars produced by SEAT and FIAT were entered. Javier Ibrán finished 8th in 4×2 class.
The Panda Raid is an event whose entry list is getting stronger each year and presents perfect harmony between racing, free spirit and solidarity. BE Motorsport, to contest the V de V with its brand-new Ligier –Nissan JSP3 LMP3, entered six Panda cars for Javier Ibrán / Juan Alarcón, Toni Castillo / Marcos Vilagra, Lluis Ribas / Marta García, Francisco Ruiz / Ionel Dumitru, Raimon Rucabado / Elisabet Massana and Borja Garralda / Eduard Andreu, the latter a fast support duo, fulfilling their role superbly.
The raid started from Madrid on March 5th where the vehicles passed the mandatory administrative and technical checks. Then, there was a neutralized section to Algeciras before embarking for Morocco where the first 433-kilometer long stage (Tangier – El Hajeb), on the foothills of the Atlas and with the drivers at the mercy of low temperatures and snow. Ibrán managed to move up to third place in 4×2 class. Stage 2 (El Hajeb – Maadid) already delivered a sandy session before approaching Stage 3 (Maadid – Merzouga), which was a very demanding technically one. Ibrán shone by finishing 3rd among 4×2 competitors. The remaining stages, Merzouga – Tazulait, Tazulait – Tansikht and Tansikht – Marrakech helped Ibrán / Alarcón to strengthen his position in the top-ten, finally ranking 8th overall. His team-mates Ruiz / Dumitru finished 22th, and on the other hand Ribas / García and Castillo / Vilagra also made it into the top-50.
More importantly, each car was carrying up to 25 kilogram loads of school supplies, which were handed to the Asociación Camino al Sur ONG. This non-governmental organization works with children in the area to improve their education and living conditions. The delivery was carried out at Blaghma School. Besides, those taking part at the Panda Raid also other goods such as toys, clothing, washroom products, computers, etc. The municipality of Olosts (Barcelona) provided all the supplies as a collection was taken among their residents.
