JONO READY GERMAN FORMULA 4 DEBUT

SA Kart star Aberdein set to step up to the big time in Germany this weekend

Double Western Province DD2 and Senior Rotax Max karting champion Jonathan Aberdein is all set for his debut in the German ADAC Formula 4 championship at Oschersleben over the weekend of 16-17 April. Capetonian Aberdein has been in Germany for some weeks preparing for the series and goes into the championship off a positive official pre-season test at the circuit last week.

“We are not sure exactly who was and who wasn’t showing their form in the test, but we are now ready to race,” Aberdein confirmed following the session topped by Mick, son of Michael Schumacher this week. “It’s my first race, so I don’t want to go in with too great expectations, but I’m happy in the car and our pace seems solid. “Let’s see what the weekend brings – I can’t wait!”

Jonathan, son of former top SA race star Chris Aberdein raced karts under his dad’s watchful eye, has a proven track record in karting with strong showings in the European Rotax Max championship and the Rotax Max and Rok World Finals last year. Now he steps up to the big time in the ADAC German Formula 4 championship with Team Motorpark where he will race against the likes of young Schumacher and a strong field of other international hopefuls who hope to use the illustrious series as the springboard to top race career.

“I am honoured to have the opportunity to race in Formula 4 with Team Motopark in this highly competitive class — it is the perfect platform to advance my career in motorsport.”

The ADAC German Formula 4 season runs as part of the high profile ADAC roadshow over eight rounds in Germany, Austria and Holland starting at Oschersleben 16-17 April with qualifying and race 1 Saturday and race 2 and the weekend’s final Sunday. The races will be live streamed with live timing also available via http://www.adac-motorsport.de/adac-formel-4/uk/.
