SA’s rookie Eugene Deneyssen delighted to break into the British Formula 3 top ten

South African British Formula 3 racing rookie Eugene Denyssen was delighted to score his first top ten result in the championship when he finished ninth in the second of the weekend’s the three Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit races on Sunday.

“I’m delighted with that!” Eugene confirmed. “It’s been quite a difficult start to the season but to end up in the top ten in my second weekend here is a great result for us.” Deneyssen had a good weekend overall as he enjoyed generally good racing conditions to better come to grips with his car following a very wet winter and first meeting a few weeks earlier.

Eugene’s weekend started on a positive note: “Qualifying was my session time in the dry around the Brands GP circuit and I was around 5th at a stage and dropped to 8th, but then I didn’t quite get a decent lap in at the end whilst everyone else found a couple of tenths, which moved me all the way down to 18th.

“Race one was good and moved up to finish 13th – it rained on the last two laps when I was on slicks, which made it quite tricky. “The second race was great this morning, but the finale was red flagged half way, leaving us to race a five-lap restart shootout to the finish and I ended up in a pretty strong dice for 11th. “I lost out in that fight the end, but 12th is good.

“We made some great progress this weekend and we climbed several championship places to 13th — now I need to get a little quicker and keep it in the top ten going forward,” the Somerset West racer concluded. “But I had a great weekend – thanks to everyone — now we just need to keep on progressing.’
