Blancpain GT Endurance – DAVID PEREL RARING TO RACE
South African Ferrari driver all set for delayed Blancpain Endurance race debut at Silverstone
While David Perel may have realised his dream of driving a Ferrari at Monza, the South African driver never got to race the Kessel 458 GT3 in the Blancpain GT Endurance Championship opener at the great Italian racetrack when the car broke before his stint. So Capetonian Perel is doubly relishing the chance to finally race that Ferrari at Silverstone’s second championship round 14-15 May.
I’ve been racing around Silverstone in video games for over 20 years and I always wondered how it would in real life,” David admitted. “I will finally find out come 14 May!
“Of course I’m keen to put the bad luck of Monza behind me, but my goals remain the same: try to qualify in the top 25 overall and to win the AM class come Sunday. “Silverstone is not an easy track to learn but, having studied it head to toe, I feel more prepared than ever before — the regulars may benefit local knowledge, but I’m confident in my ability to learn fast and be competitive”
Perel was most impressed with the level of driver performance in the Blancpain series. “The competition at Monza was phenomenal with the top 30 separated by less than a second in qualifying and I expect much the same this weekend. “The depth of skill in the Blancpain field is incredible and I hope to count myself amongst them come the end of the race weekend.”
But David is most of all looking forward to finally racing that Ferrari: “Since I never drove at Monza, this is technically my first race in the Blancpain Endurance Series and I’m extremely excited. “Bring on Silverstone!”
The Blancpain Endurance series sees 60 of the world’s finest supercars from Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, Aston Martin, BMW, Audi, Mercedes raced by over 150 of the world’s leading GT pilots and while it will never be easy, Perel and co-drivers, American Stephen Earle and Belgian Bernard Delhez are ready to race.
