Sergio Canamasas, Carlin together again for Monaco
Spaniard Canamasas, who took his first top five finish of the season at his home round, returns to Carlin for round two in Monaco. The urban circuit is the toughest track of the season but Canamasas stepped onto the Monegasque podium twice last two years.
Sergio Canamasas is ready to get back in the seat of his Carlin-entered Dallara GP2/11 in the GP2 Series. His positive start to the season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where Canamasas finished 5th on Saturday, came as a timely morale boost for the only Spanish drivers in the series. Besides, Canamasas put in two of the best performances of his career in the official F1 feeder series in Monaco. Sergio raced to the podium in 2014, taking 2nd place, and just one year later the Barcelona-born driver came third.
“I´m delighted to join Carlin once again. Our fifth place at my home round had a very special meaning. Regarding Monaco, it is always a memorable moment throughout the season. Such an incredible layout! I have been working a lot towards this weekend, so my goals are ambitious”, Canamasas commented. He continues saying that “you have no room for errors at this track, but it makes things even more interesting. But if you make a mistake, you run out of chances. Anyway, I was on the podium the last two years, so I expect to continue in the same trajectory. I am looking forward to driving again in Monaco!”
Free practice session takes place tomorrow at noon. Later, at 16.15, qualifying session is to be split into two groups – odd and even numbers-. Both races are scheduled on Friday (11.15, Feature race) and on Saturday (16.10, Sprint race).
