Canamasas cautiously optimistic about Saturday´s race
The GP2 qualifying session was held at Spa-Francorchamps today and the Barcelona-born driver experienced a few issues with his Carlin-entered Dallara car but remains confident of solving problems before Saturday´s race. Canamasas is set to start from row eight.
Sergio Canamasas completed GP2 Series qualifying session today at Spa-Francorchamps. Spain´s driver ended up 16th-fastest with a lap time of 2:00.084 in free practice session held in the morning and equaled this result later in qualifying. Canamasas was able to better that time by clocking a lap of 1:58.165 at the wheel of his Dallara GP2-11 entered by Carlin.
“I´m sure we can do better but in my opinion we are struggling with some engine issues. After speaking to my team, they will check it because we are losing three or four tenths every single lap. They think maybe it´s related with touching the ground. Let´s see, but it´s costing us time, otherwise top-ten is within reach”, Canamasas explained. He underlined that “in qualifying the first run felt good but our time was pretty average to say the least. On my second set of tires I had to push and the car wasn´t that easy to handle. But really, track conditions changed a lot. Overtaking maneuvers aren´t too difficult, so if we are able to solve our car issues we aren´t away from the potential of a points paying position”.
Saturday´s feature race is due to start at 15.40 (CET).
