Canamasas achieves another top-ten finish at Spa
The Barcelona-born driver experienced rear tires degradation problems during Sunday´s sprint race and came tenth after 18 action-packed laps. Canamasas spearheaded the Carlin charge.
The second race of the GP2 Series at Spa-Francorchamps was contested today and Sergio Canamasas, the sole Spaniard in the championship, secured another top-ten finish, which was his 8th throughout the season. Canamasas, who had started 12th on the grid, moved up one place at the beginning. Later, Canamasas passed another car to bring the Carlin-entered Dallara GP2-11 home tenth.
“Our set-up wasn´t able to counter the tire degradation problems and we struggled in the second half of the race. I had good early pace but then it dropped off and I couldn´t improve tenth place. We have made progress in comparison with our pace before the summer break. The car´s balance is much better and we are able to fight for top-ten finishes but we to improve half a second to get on the podium. That´s our goal now”, Canamasas stressed. Spain´s race also explained that “I think Monza should be a good round for us. It really suits my driving style. It´s the Temple of Speed but the driver is always a key factor as there are extremely heavy braking points. Let´s see”.
Round 9 of the GP2 Series will take place next weekend.
