Whelen Euro Elite 2: Longin Stretches His Lead
After finishing second in the ELITE 2 Race on Saturday, Stienes Longin (#11 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) and Gabriele Gardel (#24 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) dominated once again the ELITE 2 Division, but this time it was Longin who led from flag to flag for another PK Carsport one-two finish at Adria International Raceway. With his seventh win of the season, Longin tied a NASCAR Whelen Euro Series record for the most wins in a season across the two divisions and stretched his lead in the points standings to 80 points on Gardel, who moved up to second.
“It was a great weekend for everybody at PK Carsport. Yesterday we score important points and today we extended our championship lead with this win. My team is having a perfect weekend and we got the seventh win. It couldn’t be better,” said the Longin.
At the end of an aggressive race Salvador Tineo Arroyo (#54 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) came from 12th to third, winning a spectacular battle against Martin Doubek (#5 Dexwet Renauer Team Ford Mustang), who crossed the start finish line in 4th position, scoring his second top-5 of the weekend just ahead of Justin Kunz (#44 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS). The German brought home the first top-5 of his NASCAR career and and led the Rookie Cup.
Thomas Ferrando (#37 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang) and Hugo Bec (#3 Tepac RDV Compétition Ford Mustang) got together while fighting for fifth on lap 15. The Knauf Racing Team driver was able to recover and ended up sixth under the checkered flag, edging Roman Mavlanov (#1 SPV Racing Ford Mustang) and Riccardo Geltrude (#7 Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang).
Dario Caso (#8 Vict Motorsport Ford Mustang) led the Legend Trophy classification in ninth and Marconi De Abreu (#47 Brazil Team Ford Mustang) rounded out the top-10. Erika Monforte (#88 Eurokart Racing Team Chevrolet SS) took the Lady Cup thanks to her 13th position.
On October 8-9 Longin will enter the Circuit Zolder NASCAR Finals on with a solid 80-point margin on Gardel. Tineo Arroyo is 81 points back and Ferrando 84. All the races will be streamed live on Fanschoice.tv.
