Investchem Formula Ford – Record laps a van der Watt advantage?
Cape driver Julian van der Watt cannot wait for the opening races at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit 21-23 October, where he not only cannot wait to race on the new track for the first time, but where he also reckons he may well have a little advantage to overturn Investchem Formula 1600 SA championship rival Dewald Brummer’s recent winning streak.
“I am very excited for the penultimate round of the Investchem championship at Kyalami,” the Camps Bay lad admitted. “We have a bit of a gap to make up in points and we are most determined to do that, but Kyalami is a mystery to everyone else as none of my rivals have driven there, except me.”
Julian hopes that his recent Kyalami demonstration laps in the Afrix A1GP car, when he also set the brand new circuit’s unofficial overall lap record, will stand him in good stead come race day. “I spent a little quality time at Kyalami in the Afrix car, so I have a slight advantage going into the race. “I’m also naturally hugely excited for the weekend – Kyalami is a world famous circuit and I think it’s going to be an amazing experience – I can’t wait!”
Kyalami will see racing throughout the Friday to Sunday 21 to 23 October of the inaugural meeting, with Julian racing Investchem Formula 1600, with qualifying Saturday morning and the races at 14h45 Saturday and 14h35 Sunday.
