Winner of WEC 2016 Instagram competition announced
For the third year running the FIA World Endurance Championship has run a competition for fans encouraging them to submit a photo which represents the “Spirit of Le Mans”, and each year it gets more and more popular.
This year the competition was run through the WEC’s official Instagram account (@fiawec_official). Entrants had to post a photo from a round of the 2016 championship, using the hashtag #WECPhotoComp2016 and following the WEC on Instagram.
Against strong competition from over 1500 entries received from all over the world, the judges decided that Marcel Tauch’s superb photo of the No.5 Toyota TS050 HYBRID at the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps was the winning shot. The image brilliantly captures the colour, speed, energy and accessibility of the WEC, and is one that professional photographers would be proud of.
Marcel, 27, is from Dortmund in Germany and works in management for an insurance and finance company. His ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ prize is to attend the Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain, the final round of the season, from 17-19 November. Together with a friend, he will be flown to Bahrain to become a VIP guest of the WEC, experience the race weekend from the exclusive Le Mans Spirit Club access, receive grid walk access and tickets to the end of season party.
“Year after year the fans of endurance racing continue to impress us with their passion, skill and enthusiasm,” said Gérard Neveu, CEO of the World Endurance Championship. “To capture this type of photograph you must know your subject, be patient and knowledgeable. We know that we offer our fans incredible access and entertainment at each of our races, and it’s very rewarding when we see the races and our competitors through the eyes of our fans.
“The quality of entries was very high, as always, but we decided that Marcel Tauch’s image of the Toyota was the stand-out picture of 2016. He is a very worthy winner of the competition and we look forward to welcoming Marcel and his guest for a great weekend in Bahrain as the guests of the WEC.”
6 Hours of Bahrain
The Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain will take place from 17-19 November. Starting at 16h00, the race in the Middle East will be the second 6-hour event on the WEC calendar that will finish under the stars following Lone Star Le Mans, and the atmosphere within the impressive Bahrain International Circuit will be electric as champions are crowned, scores are settled and races are won.
The weekend is an action-packed feast of racing which includes single-seater action from the Indian MRF Challenge series and the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East.
