THE 6 HOURS OF BAHRAIN, A TURNING POINT FOR REBELLION RACING
For REBELLION Racing, the 6 Hours of Bahrain 2016 will be an extremely special race. The Swiss team will bring down the curtain on their current LMP1 programme with the final round of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship race at the Sakhir International circuit.
The 6 Hours of Bahrain will be the closing round of the 2016 FIA WEC but also the race weekend will close a successful chapter of the REBELLION Racing team’s history.
From their first race in the reborn World Endurance Championship in 2012 at Sebring to the 6 Hours of Shanghai in 2016, REBELLION Racing have started 37 races.
The Swiss team secured 31 class wins with 4 overall podiums.
In doing so, REBELLION Racing dominated the LMP1 Privateer class, winning the championship 5 times in a row (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016).
At Le Mans 24 Hours, REBELLION Racing won the LMP1 Privateer 4 times and finished 4th overall in 2012 and 2014.
REBELLION Racing has run several Lola Coupé and Rebellion R-One chassis over the five seasons, powered by Toyota from 2012 to 2014 and AER from 2015 to 2016.
During the five seasons, 14 drivers have worn the REBELLION Racing suit : Nicolas Prost, Nick Heidfeld, Mathias Beche, Dominik Kraihamer, Alexandre Imperatori, Andrea Belicchi, Neel Jani, Matheo Tuscher, Fabio Leimer, Harold Primat, Cong Fu Cheng, Daniel Abt, Nelson Piquet Jr. and Jeroen Bleekemolen.
After the final race of the season in Bahrain, the REBELLION Racing team will enter a new era. As confirmed previously, REBELLION Racing will focus their racing programme on the new LMP2 category. The Swiss team announced, last week, their choice of the ORECA 07 LMP2 car, two of which have been ordered.
REBELLION Racing will enjoy the last round of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship with little pressure as the Swiss team has already achieved all of their targets for this season. Nevertheless the team will do their best to win this last outing of the Rebellion R-One.
Bart Hayden, REBELLION Racing Team Manager : “An important era for REBELLION Racing reaches its conclusion with our final race in the LMP1 category for the time being. The Team built its reputation as an LMP1 Privateer entrant, we have recorded a lot of victories and championship wins in the FIA World Endurance Championship. It would be fantastic if we could close this chapter with another win at the 6 Hours of Bahrain.”
