3 big races for van der Watt in two weeks
Cape Town race driver Julian van der Watt finds himself in the middle of a monster racing fortnight straight off a winning weekend in the Cape karting regional as he heads to the opening round of the 2017 SA Karting Nationals on Monday before heading back to Killarney for the opening round of the all-new Investec Formula 1600 championship Saturday 25 March.
“Saturday was good – I took the overall DD2 win for the day at Killarney so I head to vereeniging in a positive frame of mind,” Julian explained. “The nationals are always a challenge and DD2 looks to be a very competitive class this year with some experienced rivals and quick newcomers in the class, so it should be a good day’s racing and I’m looking forward to giving it my best.
“Then we rush back to Cape Town for an important appointment with my new Formula 1600 car – the new wings and slicks era has completely reviatalised single seater racing in South Africa and I go there with one mission in mind and that’s to win this year’s championship after being runner-up two years in a row in the old class. “That’s easier said than done – there’s a quality field of some really good old hands, never mind a few youngsters who will be doing their all to win, but bring it on!”
