Investchem Formula 1600 – Van der Watt opens F1600 era in style
Cape Town’s Julian van der Watt opened his main circuit race season in style when he dominated the inaugural Investchem Formula 1600 races at his home track Killarney on Saturday. Julian put his brand new Mygale-Ford on pole position for the season-opener before disappearing into the distance to record two race wins on the day.
“It was a perfect weekend,” Julian admitted. “I put it on pole position late in qualifying and then we made some adjustments and fine tweaking for the first race, which we dominated despite a bit of a slip at the start, but I was back in the lead by the second corner and we just pulled a lead from there till the end and then I led race two from flag to flag.
“I must say a huge thank you to the whole Investchem racing team for all the hard work they put into the new series and my car, especially my mechanics Hendrik and Duncan and also a huge thanks to Claudio Piazza-Musso from Race Driver SA for all the help. “Let’s keep this momentum going into Kyalami!”
