Historic Tour Race Report – Lindenberg sets the pace at Phakisa
Paige Lindenberg topped a fine day’s racing at the Phakisa Free State Freeway in Welkom on the weekend, when the diminutive Langebaan lass hustled her monster Ford Fairlane to a fine overall Historic Tour Saloon win. Lindenberg Racing couple, Kirsten and Djurk Venter meanwhile put their differences aside to chalk up a class win en route to second on Index of Performance in the day’s endurance race.
“I’m pretty chuffed with my weekend’s results in the Ford Fairlane at Phakisa,” Paige admitted. “I won overall and took my class on my way to overall saloon car honours on the day.”
Kirsten Venter meanwhile enjoyed a positive first race in her Mk. 1 Escort, before retiring in the second heat and then teaming up with husband Djurk for the Endurance race. “We put our on-track differences aside for once today,” Kirsten smiled, prompting Djurk to wink; “We should do that more often – that class win and second overall on Index certainly was worth it!”
The weekend was however clouded by a fatal accident in Friday practice. “Sadly this was also one of the toughest race weekends I have ever experienced,” Paige Lindenberg concluded. “We lost a friend and competitor in Sean Allen and we express our deepest condolences, strength and love to all Sean’s family and friends at this devastating time – may he rest in peace.”
Lindenberg Racing meanwhile turns its attention to this coming weekend’s Jaguar Simola Hillclimb in Knysna, where Peter Lindenberg will make a racing return in both a Shelby Mustang GT350 in Classic Car Friday as well as the all new Perana Bakkie in Sunday’s King of the Hill, where Paige will also steer a 500 kilowatt Shelby Super Snake. Paige will also take her Fairlane to the Hill on Friday alongside Djurk Venter in the Capri Perana and Justin Price’s Daytona coupe.
