First 2017 win for SMP Racing by AVF

SMP Racing by AVF celebrated their first win of 2017 in the World Series Formula V8 3.5 round at Spa-Francorchamps.

Thanks to a perfect strategy by the pitwall, Matevos Isaakyan won race 2 at the legendary Belgian venue, where the series supported again the World Endurance Champuonship. The Russian went into the lead waiting for the mandatory tyre change, which he served on lap 10. After a very fast stop, Matevos was still at the front when he came back to the track, taking advantage of the gap he built before. For Isaakyan this is the second personal win in World Series Formula V8 3.5, which enable him to make a jump in the driver standings where he now has 37 points.

Team mate Egor Orudzhev experienced a tough Saturday, struggling with a less than ideal setup of his car. He crossed the finish line in seventh position, but he’s still very close to the top of the championship with 57 points.

SMP Racing by AVF maintains second place in the team championship with 94 points, and is already focused on the third round of the season starting next weekend at Monza.

Matevos Isaakyan

“The race was tough as we struggled a bit with the clutch, and after the start I was fifth. I knew that the race was going to be long and AVF was great in the pit-stops so we made a good strategy. I tried to find a good pace and gain as many places I could before pitting. We were the last to come in and it paid off as we gained the lead and made it to victory. Thank you to all the team and SMP Racing for this result”.

Egor Orudzhev

“It’s been a difficult weekend, in which I struggled with the pace and in the way to drive the car. We need to find a good setup because my team mate showed that the car can be very competitive. We will work on that with the goal of coming back stronger next time
