V de V 4 Hours of Paul Ricard – Simon, Simpson take Paul Ricard 4-hour
South Africa’s Simon Murray and British teammate Michael Simpson scored an emphatic come-from-behind Four Hours of Paul Ricard V de V Endurance race victory aboard Simpson Motorsport’s Ginetta G57-Corvette at the French Riviera circuit over the weekend. Bryanston resident Murray and Simpson started from pole position, but an early spin dropped the duo well down the order to set up for a fight back through the pack and a compelling victory.
“What a wonderful weekend,” Simon Murray reflected after sharing the spoils with his teammate Sunday evening. “We were fastest in every practice session, we took pole in qualifying and we came from behind to win the race from being two laps down at a point! “Thank you to my rapid teammate Michael for a stirring drive and to the Simpson boys for such a strong car.”
Murray and Simpson showed their potential when Simpson qualified the Ginetta on pole position by some margin, but the duo’s performance was displayed by their stunning comeback performance in the race. They fought back from 25th to run fifth at the beginning of the first hour and then took the lead with 25 minutes of the race left before storming off to an emphatic victory.
The 2017 V de V Endurance Series is an international championship catering for GT, Touring Car and LMP3 classes with races across Europe throughout the year — the next round remains in France for the 3-hours of Dijon on 25 June.
